FED:Left to argue for deficit: Cameron

Labor senator DOUG CAMERON says Labor's left faction will use the its national conference
to argue that the government should accept a budget deficit in 2012/13 if the economy
slows down further.

Treasurer WAYNE SWAN announced net budget cuts of almost seven billion dollars over
the four-year estimates to forecast a 1.5 billion dollar surplus in 2012/13.

The surplus was built on spending cuts, bringing forward expenditure to this financial
year and delaying other measures until 2013/14.

But senator CAMERON's told ABC radio that if the situation deteriorates in the US and
Europe then we have to make sure our first priority is jobs.

Labor's national conference begins tomorrow in Sydney.
