COUNTY EXTENSION TO HOST COASTAL SYSTEMS FLORIDA MASTER NATURALIST PROGRAM TRAINING

DELAND, Fla., Jan. 26 -- Volusia County issued the following news release:

Volusia County residents interested in Florida's coastal environment can become Florida master naturalists through a 40-hour program offered by the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences.

The Coastal Systems Florida Master Naturalist Program is a non-degree program taught in six one-day sessions. Classes will be held from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. March 11, 18 and 25 and April 1, 8 and 15 at the Volusia County Agricultural Center, 3100 E. New York Ave., DeLand.

The course is appropriate for novices and environmental professionals. Participants must be at least 18, and the class size is limited to 20 persons.

The $225 fee includes educational materials, classroom sessions taught by extension staff, and field trips to coastal locations. Participants will receive pins, patches and certificates identifying them as Florida master naturalists and registration in the University of Florida's database as Florida Master Naturalist Program coastal systems naturalists.

Registration, required by March 1, can be completed online by visiting masternaturalist.org and clicking "course offerings." The website includes a secure page for participants who want to pay by credit card.
