Governor reveals plans for secure prison college.

THE Governor of Aylesbury Young Offender Institute has unveiled plans to make the prison a secure college.

The closed security prison in Bierton Road is home to Britain's longest serving young criminals - out of the 440 serving there a quarter have used drugs and almost 90 per cent have a history of violence.

Only 33 prisoners are released from HMYOI each year, through transfers to adult prisons or into society after serving their sentence.

Yet David Kennedy, who has 30 years experience in the service, believes the only way to prevent the next victim is by giving young offenders life skills to cope better in difficult situations.
