HUNTSVILLE, Texas - An inmate and former street gang member was executed Tuesday for the torture, rape and strangling of two teenage girls in Houston 13 years ago.
Derrick Sean O'Brien, 31, apologized profusely before he was put to death.
"I am sorry. I have always been sorry," said O'Brien, looking his victims' relatives. "It is the worst mistake that I ever made in my whole life."
O'Brien was pronounced dead at 6:19 p.m., seven minutes after the lethal drugs began to flow.
He was one of six members of a street gang arrested in the rape and slayings of Elizabeth Pena, 16, and Jennifer Ertman, 14. The girls were attacked as they took a shortcut …
